OUR STORY

POKKO's authentic flavours hail from Chennai, the birth place of founder Sasha Rajamani parents. The formula and name itself is inspired by a variation of "ribbon pakoda", a popular South Indian snack that Sasha's mother would vary and refine over the years, eventually becoming today's beloved version of POKKO.

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

It all started in 2019 when Sasha, inspired by his mom's homemade snack, decided to take matters into his own hands.

Cooking up Pokko in his basement apartment was a stroke of genius - not only did it spare the rest of the apartment from smelling like a snack factory, but it also saved Sasha from the wrath of his (now wife) girlfriend.

After countless taste tests with focus groups (because apparently, rice and chickpeas are serious business), Pokko finally emerged from the depths of Sasha's basement kitchen. With a newborn in tow and a full-time job on the side, Sasha tirelessly cooked up batches of Pokko in the evenings and weekends, selling them to anyone who would take a bite.

Fast forward eight months of bootstrapping later, and Pokko was ready to take on the world. Sasha rallied the troops - co-packers, investors, broker teams, you name it - all in the name of propelling Pokko to snack stardom. And lo and behold, Pokko can now be found gracing the shelves at your local grocer.

So there you have it, folks - the tale of Pokko, the chip that dared to be different. Whether you're on board with the hype or just curious to see what all the fuss is about, one thing's for sure: Pokko is here to shake things up in the world of snacking, one crunchy bite at a time.

SUSTAINABILITY

SUSTAINABLY SOURCED

We prioritize sustainability by partnering with Canadian farmers, ensuring that the majority of our main ingredients come from their eco-friendly practices. By sourcing locally, we reduce our carbon footprint and support the growth of resilient agricultural communities across Canada.

Chickpeas and rice are considered sustainable sources for several reasons. Firstly, they require relatively low water and energy inputs compared to other crops, making them environmentally friendly choices. Additionally, they have a high nutritional value, offering essential nutrients while being versatile for various cuisines, which can promote food security and reduce reliance on resource-intensive foods. Lastly, these crops can be grown in rotation with other plants, enhancing soil health and biodiversity in agricultural systems.

SUSTAINING COMMUNITY

"Sustaining Community" at POKKO is not just a commitment; it's a way of life.

Economically, we prioritize the empowerment of our community by actively employing newcomers and securing jobs at a local manufacturing facility.

Our dedication extends beyond the production line as we strive to make a meaningful social impact. Through cash donations to the Massey Centre for Women at the local level, participating as an In-Kind Food Sponsor in the CIBC Run for the Cure Silent Auction nationally, and contributing a substantial food donation to Food Banks Canada with a focus on the Greater Toronto Area region, we actively support causes that matter. Additionally, POKKO proudly sponsors the Greater Toronto Hockey League, providing both monetary support and serving as an In-kind Food Sponsor.

Our commitment doesn't end there; we act as an In-kind food sponsor for various retail, charity, and wellness events, ensuring that our engagement with the community resonates at multiple levels. POKKO believes in the power of collective efforts, and together, we can make a lasting impact on the well-being of our community.

SUSTAINING YOU!

The reality is, we live in a world surrounded by unhealthy food. We’re also living longer. We don’t want to exist on raw Kale and rice cakes, but we want to go the distance, and go in good health, feeling great.

First off, rice and chickpeas are like the dynamic duo of nutrition. They're packed with fibre, which is your gut's best friend. Fibre keeps things moving along smoothly, if you catch my drift, and helps you feel fuller for longer. Translation? You're less likely to reach for that bag of greasy potato chips after munching on some Pokko goodness.

But that's not all - Pokko also brings a hefty dose of protein to the table. Chickpeas, in particular, are a protein powerhouse, which is great news for all you gym buffs out there. Protein helps repair and build muscle, so you can snack guilt-free knowing you're fuelling your gains.

Now, let's talk about the crunch factor. There's something oh-so-satisfying about biting into a perfectly crispy chip, am I right? Well, Pokko delivers that crunchy satisfaction without the excess grease and oil found in traditional potato chips. So go ahead, indulge in that satisfying crunch knowing you're making a healthier choice for your snack time.

Let's dive into the wonderful world of spices and discover why asafetida and turmeric are not just flavor boosters, but also health superheroes! Asafetida and turmeric are not just culinary delights, they're also powerhouse spices that offer a myriad of health benefits. From aiding digestion and soothing inflammation to protecting against chronic diseases, these spices deserve a prime spot in your spice rack.

So there you have it - Pokko isn't just a tasty snack option, they're also a healthier alternative to traditional potato chips. With it's spices, fibre, protein, and satisfying crunch, they're a win-win for both your taste buds and your health.
